Welcome to kindergarten at Akers Elementary!
My name is Kayla Holzschuh and I am so excited to be the "first stop" on your child's educational journey. This is my third year in the district and my third year teaching.
I grew up and currently reside in my hometown of Visalia, California. I earned my associate's degree in early childhood education from College of the Sequoias and earned my bachelor's degree with an emphasis in STEM education from Fresno State University.
I am committed to cultivating a classroom environment where your child is safe, valued, loved, and feels like the integral part of our family of learner/thinkers that they truly are. I believe that my relationship with my the families of my students are just as important as my relationship with each student. Afterall, parents are their children's first teacher! I post weekly updates on parent square called "Peak Into Our Week" so that you can talk to you child and share in their learning.
I believe in the power of play! Researchers have found that it takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a connection in the brain. Whereas, it only takes 10 to 20 repetitions through play to form a new connection in the brain. We will practice what we have learned with puzzles, bingo, board games, toys, crafts, and more!
I also believe in the power of music and movement! Music taps into our neural pathways, strengthening our brain muscles. Steady beats and rhythm help children develop focus and coordination as well as literacy skills. Reading has a rhythm. Movement combined with language increases learning and retention! I can teach any topic through a song!
Get ready to sing, dance, and play your heart out in kindergarten!
I cannot wait to help your child grow! Please feel free to email me, contact me via parent square, or come talk to me in person about any questions or concerns you may have. I am so grateful to be on this journey with your student and you!
