Mr. Wilcox has been teaching full time since 2004. He received his degree and teaching credential from Chapman University in Hanford California.
The curriculum in Mr. Wilcox's class is driven by the Common Core State Standards. The State Standards can be viewed at http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/. He uses a wide variety of materials to create lessons that link Skills understanding, and activities.
The Morning is mainly devoted to language arts. California Treasures Reading, the district adopted series is the core program used. Students will also be using IPads to supplement the curriculum and to do a variety of web and application based projects.
McGraw-Hill *My Math* Mathematics is the core program used in fourth grade. It is supplemented with activities and games.
In science the students will be studying life science, earth science, and physical science. They will do many hands on activities as well as book study.
The year long focus of Social Studies is California history. We will be studying about California geography, early Native Americans, and the gold rush.
Homework consists of daily assignments in reading, math, and grammar. It will be used to reinforce the days in class assignments.
Fourth grade students also have specialty classes in art, music and P.E. Students also have the opportunity to memorize a poem and try out for the Peach Blossom Festival at California State University, Fresno.
