Hello, my name is Miss Reis! I am a born and raised Central Valley resident and I call the town of Hanford my home. I attended Fresno Pacific University and received my Multiple Subject teaching credential from Fresno Pacific University as well. I am excited for a great year!
Curriculum for third grade students is based on the Common Core Standards. Students participate in an English language arts program that includes McMillan McGraw-Hill Reading along with English language development. The McMillan McGraw-Hill Mathematics program is the district-adopted program for math. Included in the program are basic math skills and “hands on” problem solving activities. We continually monitor students' progress and give three trimester benchmark tests during the year. We study integrated Science and Social Studies units throughout the year. Every child has access to an iPad and technology is an integral component of our curriculum. All state standards can be viewed at the California Department of Education website: http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/cc/
We are fortunate to be able to offer several special classes to students at Akers. Third graders have music class with our Music teacher, Mr. Porter, once a week. They have P.E. with Coach Rosselot twice a week and enjoy visits to the Fitness Room at least once a week, as well. Mr. Fraley, our art teacher, sees the class two times per month. We visit the library once a week.
Students have homework Monday-Thursday consisting of reading and practice of skills and strategies we've covered in class. Thank you in advance for helping your child build strong work habits by checking to see that he or she brings his or her homework folder to school daily.
I love teaching third graders and look forward to working with your child and you. Please email or call should you have any questions or concerns.
