Ms. Pollard - Third Grade

Welcome to THIRD GRADE! My name is Madison Pollard. This is my first year teaching at Akers Elementary. I was born and raised in the Central Valley and am happy to be back home. I attended Fresno State for my undergraduate degree in Child Development and continued my education at Fresno Pacific to obtain my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I am so fortunate to be at this amazing school and I look forward to a blessed year with all of you!

Curriculum for third grade students is based on the Common Core Standards. Students participate in an English language arts program that includes McMillan McGraw-Hill Reading along with English language development. The McMillan McGraw-Hill Mathematics program is the district-adopted program for math. Included in the program are basic math skills and “hands on” problem solving activities. We continually monitor students' progress and give three trimester benchmark tests during the year. We study integrated Science and Social Studies units throughout the year. Every child has access to an iPad and technology is an integral component of our curriculum. All state standards can be viewed at the California Department of Education website:

We are fortunate to be able to offer several special classes to students at Akers. Third graders have music class with our Music teacher, Mr. Porter, once a week. They have P.E. with Coach Rosselot twice a week and enjoy visits to the Fitness Room at least once a week, as well. Mr. Fraley, our art teacher, sees the class two times per month. We also visit the library once a week.

Students have homework Monday-Thursday consisting of reading a math that practice the skills and strategies we've covered in class. Thank you in advance for helping your child build strong work habits by checking to see that he or she brings his or her homework folder to school daily.

Our specials schedule:

Tuesday- Music 8:30-9:10
Wednesday- Art (bi-weekly) 8:00-8:50
