About Mr. Porter
Mr. Porter attended CSU, Chico and graduated with a BA in Music with Special Awards in 1987. He then entered graduate school and received a Single Subject Credential in Music in 1988, completing his student teaching at Las Plumas High School in Oroville, CA. Since that time, Mr. Porter has been teaching music in public schools beginning with Mulcahy Middle School in Tulare, and from there moving to Evergreen School in Cottonwood, CA, followed by Liberty Middle School in Lemoore. He began teaching at Admiral Akers School in the fall of 1998.
Mr. Porter performs throughout the San Joaquin Valley as jazz pianist/keyboard player  as a soloist, freelance artist, and with various bands in the area. He has also presented clinics/workshops to students from Clovis Unified, Fresno Unified, Lemoore Elementary, Hanford Elementary, Tulare City Schools, Visalia Unified, and Exeter Union High School. He has also been a presenter at the California State Music Educators Professional Development Conference. He has written many pieces for jazz band, and his works have been commissioned for the Mid-Valley Jazz Festival since 2014. Mr. Porter was named Jazz Educator of the Year in 2009 and Band Director of the Year in 2017 by the Tulare and Kings Counties Music Educators Association.
